All School Workshop

Today was the all school workshop. I went to see Jackpot Donnie play in the CPA and High Action Bikes perform in the main gym. I thought Jackpot Donnie was ok. They were good performers and musicians, I just wasn’t a huge fan of the music they played. High Action Bikes were pretty impressive. They set up a ramp in the main gym and skate boarders and BMX bikers performed tricks. It was very entertaining but it only lasted about 25 minutes out of the 45 minute period. I wish I could have gotten what I wanted to sign up for but by the time I signed up there were only a couple choices left. I hope that we don’t have to make up a day. I heard that since so many people missed today, if there wasn’t a large enough attendance we would have to make up a day. I hope we do this again next year. I just hope that there are more presenters and more sessions. It would also be nice if a different system of signing up was worked out so the seniors don’t take all of the good sessions.

Gymnastics is going well!

Yesterday was my second gymnastics meet of the season. It was against Libertyville high school. We won by a lot. I was happy because I got to compete on parallel bars, which I didn’t do in the first meet. I improved on my routines since the first meet, but sadly it didn’t show in my scores because there was a different judge. But it turned out to be okay since everybody got lower scores. Tomorrow I have another meet against Highland Park/Deerfield co-op. I’m not going to get to compete on parallel bars because there are too many people that do P bars. I will be on Pommel Horse, Rings, and High Bar. I am excited for our meet next week because I want to get giants into my high bar routine. Giants are a new skill I have been working on. I hope tomorrow goes as well as yesterday did.

Special Trip To Manny's

This weekend I went to Manny’s in Chicago. I had matzo ball soup and a corned beef sandwich with a potato pancake. It is a deli located on Jefferson Street. It’s very popular with everybody that’s ever been there. The corned beef sandwich is the biggest one that  I have ever seen. The food isn’t very fancy but it’s good and the portions are huge. They have much more food than just sandwiches. It’s cafeteria style, you pick up a tray and go down the line and take whatever you want. Then at the end of the line you pay and go find a table. The restaurant has been in Chicago since 1942. It is a very popular restaurant for people that are in the city. President Obama has even eaten there when he came into town. I wish that I could eat there more often.

Starting and Finishing

Around this time wrestling is over and gymnastics is beginning. The school wrestling team is over but this Sunday there is an individual tournament only for Freshman and Sophomores. After this Sunday wrestling will be completely over until next year. Gymnastics started on Monday of last week. I only had a week without anything I had to do before gymnastics started. I’m glad it’s now gymnastics season. It is a lot more relaxed than wrestling and it’s fun. It’s taking a while to get all my moves back and to get used to all the muscles it works though.

The First Time

This past weekend was the first time that I drove in snow by myself with my license. Since we were off of school because of finals, I had a lot of time to drive around. I drove around town in the early afternoon and then when it started to snow the hardest I drove to school for a wrestling meet. I then drove home from school right as the snow was ending. The snow came down pretty fast and during the day so the streets were not great. Luckily I missed most of the rush hour traffic. I consider myself to be a pretty good driver so I wasn’t worried in the snow. My dad thought that I might be nervous with the roads being so bad but I thought it was fun. It turned out to be a very good first time. Now I’m excited for it to snow again.

FINALS!

I am very stressed out about finals. The majority of the reason is because I have very little time. Last weekend I had an all day wrestling tournament on Saturday. Then on Sunday I had religious school from the morning into the afternoon. I only had a little time on Sunday night to work. This week I have practice Monday-Wednesday. By the time I get home from practice, take a shower, and have dinner it’s at least seven o’clock. Then Thursday and Friday I have wrestling meets and another all day tournament Saturday. Right now all the time I’ve had has been used for doing homework and studying for the tests I have this week. I haven’t had time to start studying for finals yet. Luckily I have this Sunday and Monday free. But that doesn’t help me for the finals that I have Thursday and Friday of this week. I will be so happy when these two weeks are over and I can stop thinking about all this work.

So Close Yet So Far

I am very excited for winter break this year. The week leading up to break has been so long. I have a wrestling meet Thursday and a tournament Friday and Saturday which is going to make break seem so much farther away. Hanukah starts on Tuesday night, it is always fun to get presents and eat potato latkes. Then on the 28^th it is my birthday. This year is a very special birthday because I can get my license. I’m planning on going to get it on my birthday. I want to get it as soon as possible. Last year the day I was supposed to get my permit the snowpocalypse occurred. I really hope that doesn’t happen again. ( Actually it would be awesome if it happened again, it was so much fun) I’m so anxious to get my license, I have been waiting for it for a long time. Then after that, it is New Years which is very fun. I am planning on this winter break being a really good one.
